Maboubeh Karami Indicted
In a phone call on April 29, Maboubeh Karami told her family that she has been indicted and forced to participate in a taped group interview.
RAHANA – On April 29, during a phone call, Maboubeh Karami told her family that she has been indicted at the Evin magistrate court.
According to Change for Equality, Karami has been charged with membership in the 1Million Signatures Campaign and the HRAIran as well as participation in illegal gatherings. Karami has not yet been allowed to visit with her lawyer.
Additionally, under extreme pressure, Karami and a few other detainees have been forced to take part in a 45-minute taped interview. Prior to her arrest, Karamai suffered from depression and prisoners who have seen her in prison have said that her condition has deteriorated in detention. During the phone call, the activist sounded distressed and worried over the forced interview.
Karami has been charged for her membership in the 1Million Signatures Campaign, despite the fact that several other Campaign members who in the past faced similar charges, were acquitted and their Campaign membership was not considered to be against the law in their court rulings.
Maboubeh Karami was arrested at her home on March 2, and was held in solitary confinement for over 45 days.
