Nearly 400 punished for watching satellite channels; Iranian regime looking to ban internet
The Prosecutor of Malayer said that from the beginning of the [Persian] year, 372 people have been sentenced in court on charges of using satellite [channels].
“Last year, 245 people were sentenced and in 2009 overall 112 people were punished for keeping and using satellite equipment”, Mehdi Ahmadi Tajvid said.
“Judicial measures to counter the use of satellite equipment were carried out this year as it was carried out last year and the signs of this can be seen”, he added…
“We are looking to ban satellite [channels], the internet, indecent CD’s and other satellite equipment that threatens families and measures have to also be taken regarding the correct culture for cellphone use”, he stressed. (ISNA state-run News Agency – Jan. 22, 2012)
